Valter joined Crossjoin at the end of last year. He had the same passion as our team: Performance.

He is our Consultant and part of the Competence Center team. One of his main roles is to solve problems reported by the client in the information systems.
Soon after he arrived at Crossjoin, he had the opportunity to travel to Chile and join our permanent team there for a month. In that period of time, he worked at the client’s premises. It was very important to see the essential role that Crossjoin has and the immediate impact on the information system and, therefore, the teams.
Valter had the opportunity to assist and help to solve a firefight in one of our clients as well.

“There was a firefight where some of our Specialist Performance Architects (SPA) gave me an insight into what a firefight was in direct contact with the client.

With that insight, I could see our methodology applied to the challenge. It provided me with a quick transmission of knowledge about the technologies and tools we use.

The space occupied by Crossjoin in the client is often a hospital emergency room! Whenever an accident happens, it’s this “space” they turn to solve the problems as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Válter.

Our Crosser says he really enjoyed his experience. Not only did everything go well at a professional level, but he also really enjoyed meeting the permanent team with whom he had only had contact behind the computer. And of course, the country! He confessed that, from the little he had the opportunity to know, he loved it:

“I went there in a rather complicated time for the country, after the protests that took place in late 2019. However, the area where I stayed, in Las Condes, was “incredibly safe”, and I always felt safe without any problems.
The South American people are very nice and with the help of our full-time Crossers in Chile, easily I felt like I was at home :), they are very nice, helpful, real Joiners, just like the rest of the team”.

After his stay in Chile, Valter says he wants to embrace travel whenever possible, because he feels it is an enrichment at all levels, not only personally but also professionally.

In Portugal or abroad, he always has the same purpose: Perform to Perfection at all levels.

André Costa joined Crossjoin at the end of 2019 and he is part of our team in Canada, working directly with our client – the major telecommunication company in the country.

It’s the first time that André is part of an international project, but this desire had already accompanied him for a long time. In the recruitment interview, he immediately accepted the challenge: “That’s what I’ve always wanted, because I think that the more diverse the experience is, the greater our learning, skills and values are and easier it will be to find solutions “out of the box”. At the same time, we will develop soft skills to deal with various cultures and mentalities.”.

Before taking off to Canada, André Costa had training in our Competence Center, whose purpose is to integrate new Crossers in our internal procedures, techniques and methodologies. It prepares Crossers to respond remotely to a client’s challenge. This training has proven to be very useful both in its integration with the customer and in the remote work that we all face today.

When he arrived in Canada he was surprised by the size and layout of the facilities (he got lost several times inside) and the friendliness of the team and Canadians in general.
The main difference he noticed compared to Portugal was the fact that foreign colleagues often have lunch in front of the PC with food almost always in packages. However, the balance between free time and working hours seemed to be highly respected, something that is not very common in most companies in Portugal.
During the two months that he has been in Canada, he shared a house with another colleague, and whenever the weather conditions allowed him, he would try to get to know the city.

As for professional experience, he says that:

“Working directly with the client has allowed me to understand more deeply the client’s whole context, what their needs are, what is their background and what their progress is. It is a more complete and richer experience and, in my opinion, allows me to offer more value to the client. It is particularly interesting and rewarding to see the faces of relief and satisfaction of managers when we offer possible solutions to issues that have been unresolved for a long time. Working in another country has made me leave the comfort zone and make contact with other cultures and other procedures that will make me grow a lot both professionally and personally.”

André was enjoying the experience very much, until it was interrupted by the pandemic situation of COVID 19 and André had to return faster than he was supposed to. 

“I thought that it was very impressive how quickly they managed to get the entire Crossjoin team to safety. I’m proud.” Says André. 
Crossjoin was one of the first companies to implement remote working to protect its employees, customers and family members. 

However, the experiment is not over, it has only increased the distance.
André is working for the same client remotely and explained to us that the adaptation was not difficult:

“On one hand, some tasks were already done remotely and the training at the Competence Center prepared me to respond to challenges from a distance, on the other hand, my team organized quickly, we have regular meetings, they help me a lot, I always feel supported.”

Once this situation is over, André will return to Canada and continue his longed-for international experience.

O Miguel Baeta entrou na Crossjoin em 2017 como consultor e com vontade de abraçar um projeto internacional.

“Trabalhar diretamente no cliente é gratificante, pela dinâmica que existe, pelo desenvolvimento pessoal ao lidar com pessoas novas e pelo ritmo com que vão aparecendo novas tecnologias.” 

Disse o Miguel.

Tem sido uma colaboração duradoura entre a Crossjoin e a empresa de telecomunicações. A Crossjoin tem uma equipa onsite dedicada às várias áreas e tem o excelente suporte do Competence Center que é fundamental para ultrapassar os obstáculos que surgem. A Crossjoin tem provado o seu valor, sendo um activo importante para os sistemas do cliente e também fornecendo resultados tangíveis.

Segundo o Miguel “ O apoio que temos vindo a prestar ao cliente tem benefícios provados e claros nas mais diversas áreas – desde Sistemas de CRM, Billing, Integração onde começou o nosso trabalho, às áreas dos testes de Performance ou mesmo a área Digital e Infraestrutura em Cloud. É por isso que a nossa colaboração é duradoura.

Ele sente-se orgulhoso por participar nestes desafios que o tem feito crescer bastante. 

Este não é o primeiro desafio profissional internacional do Miguel. A primeira vez foi há 13 anos em Luanda, Angola. Nessa altura sentiu uma grande diferença a nível de cultura de trabalho e aprendizagem e acabou por ser uma experiência bastante valiosa no seu percurso profissional. Desde essa experiência que o gosto pelo contacto com outras culturas ficou.

Apesar de em UK não se sentir um grande choque cultural, o Miguel contou-nos que também teve de se adaptar a certas situações.

O que foi mais difícil na sua adaptação ao país foi o clima. Chegou a UK, mais precisamente a Newbury, no final do mês de Janeiro e embora as casas e os estabelecimentos sejam aquecidos, na rua sente-se bastante frio.

Além das diferenças climatéricas e do trânsito (ser ao contrário), há alguns aspetos culturais que lhe fizeram alguma confusão ao início, como por exemplo os horários das lojas e cafés.

“Estamos habituados em Portugal a uma rotina de ir beber um café ao final do dia ou depois do jantar quer durante a semana, quer ao fim de semana e em Inglaterra os estabelecimentos fecham muito cedo. Lembro-me de pensar,: Como é que já estão todas as lojas fechadas às 18h00? Mas com o tempo habituei-me”.

Também confessa sentir falta da família e dos amigos que tem em Portugal, no entanto refere que os seus colegas Crossers ajudam a “matar” essas saudades de Portugal, pois nunca deixam de falar a língua portuguesa e acaba por “encontrar um pouco de casa longe de casa”.

Tanto a nível pessoal como profissional o espírito de entreajuda e de apoio entre os Crossers acaba por estar sempre presente e isso é formidável, conta o Miguel. “Aliás, é esse espírito de equipa e apoio que tanto caracteriza a Crossjoin que mais valorizo na nossa empresa. Sei que se me deparar com algum obstáculo pessoal ou profissional, vou contar com todo o apoio da equipa.”

Miguel Baeta joined Crossjoin in 2017 as a consultant and with the will to embrace an international project.

The proposed destination when he arrived at Crossjoin, three years ago, was England, and the challenge was to integrate our team that works directly with our client – a telecommunication company.

“Working directly with the client is rewarding, due to the dynamic that exists, the personal development when dealing with new people and the pace with which new technologies appear.”

Said Miguel.

It has been a long-term collaboration between Crossjoin and telecommunication companies. Crossjoin has an onsite team dedicated to the various areas, and has the excellent support of the competence center in Lisbon which is fundamental to overcome all the obstacles that arise. Crossjoin has proven its value, being an important asset to the customer’s systems and also delivering tangible results.

Miguel mentions: “ The support we have been providing to the client has proven and clear benefits in several areas – from CRM Systems, Billing, Integration where our work began, to the areas of Performance testing or even the Digital area and Cloud Infrastructure. That’s why it’s been a long-term collaboration.”

He feels proud to participate in these challenges that have made him grow a lot.

This is not Miguel’s first international professional challenge. The first time was 13 years ago in Luanda, Angola. At that time, he felt a big difference in terms of work and learning culture. It turned out to be a very valuable experience in his professional career. Since that experience, his passion for contact with other cultures has remained. Although in the UK there was not much culture shock, Miguel told us that he also had to adapt to certain situations.

What was most difficult in his adaptation to the country was the climate. He arrived in the UK, more precisely Newbury, at the end of January and although the houses and establishments are heated, in the street it is quite cold. In addition to the weather and traffic differences (being the other way around), there are some cultural aspects that made it a little confusing at first, such as the shops and cafes schedules. “We’re used to a routine in Portugal of going for a coffee at the end of the day or after dinner either during the week or at the weekend and in England the establishments close very early. I remember thinking, “How are all the shops closed at 6pm? But in time I got used to it”.

He also confesses to missing his family and friends in Portugal, but says that his Crossers colleagues help to “kill” these home sicknesses of Portugal, as they never stop speaking the Portuguese language and end up “finding a bit of home away from home”.

On both a personal and professional level, the spirit of mutual help and support between the Crossers is always present and this is amazing, says Miguel.

“By the way, it’s this team spirit and support that characterises Crossjoin so much that I value the most in our company. I know that if I run into any personal or professional obstacles, I will count on all the support of the team”.

André Pinho llegó a Crossjoin hace menos de un año y fue invitado a tener su primera experiencia profesional en el extranjero. 

Viajó 10.564 km, cruzó el océano y llegó a Chile con otro Crosser para integrar nuestro equipo en una misión de extinción de incendios en uno de nuestros clientes.

André estuvo un mes en Chile y gustó de la experiencia. Dice que es diferente trabajar directamente con el cliente que remotamente con el equipo del Centro de Competencias:

“Al trabajar directamente con el cliente, vemos de cerca el impacto que tienen nuestras recomendaciones y lo importante que es nuestro trabajo. Crossjoin es una consultora tecnológica líder en el área de performance que resuelve misiones consideradas imposibles. Nuestros clientes valoran mucho nuestro trabajo y es muy gratificante sentir esto. En verdad, es importante que todos los Crossers tengan una experiencia directa con el cliente” – dice nuestro Crosser.

Durante su permanencia en Chile también aprovechó la oportunidad de disfrutar de la ciudad y de la compañía de los demás Crossers que viven allí. No tuvo dificultades para adaptarse, aunque fue su primera experiencia profesional en el extranjero. Siempre se sintió acompañado y sólo destacó dos dificultades: una era el idioma, sin embargo, se resolvía fácilmente cuando hablaban en modo “Despacio”, la otra era la gastronomía, confiesa que echaba de menos un maravilloso plato portugués.Aprovechó su estadía en Chile para conocer al equipo de Crossers. Cada fin de semana cenaban juntos y, confieso, ¡el intercambio de experiencias fue genial! Tener compañeros viviendo allí fue excelente para conocer la ciudad y saber los mejores lugares para visitar.

André ya está en Portugal y ve esta experiencia como muy positiva: 

“En Crossjoin me siento desafiado cada día y siempre hay algo nuevo que aprender. Me gustó mucho la forma en que me acogieron desde el primer día en que me incorporé al equipo, facilitando mi primera experiencia en el mundo profesional.”

Sentiu-se sempre acompanhado e apenas destacou duas dificuldades: uma foi a língua, no entanto, resolvia-se facilmente sempre que falavam em modo “Despacio”, a outra foi a gastronomia, confessa que sentiu saudades de um belo prato português.

Aproveitou a sua estadia no Chile para conhecer melhor a equipa de Crossers que está lá em permanência. Todos os fins de semana jantavam juntos e, confessa, a partilha de experiências foi óptima! O facto de ter colegas que lá vivem foi excelente para conhecer a cidade e saber quais os melhores locais a visitar.

O André já está em Portugal e vê esta experiência como muito positiva:

“Na Crossjoin sinto-me desafiado todos os dias e há sempre algo novo para aprender. Gostei muito da forma como me acolheram desde o primeiro dia que integrei a equipa, tornando mais fácil a minha primeira experiência no mundo profissional”.

André Pinho arrived at Crossjoin less than a year ago and was invited to have his first professional experience abroad.
He traveled 6565 miles away, crossed the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in Chile with another colleague to integrate our team in a Firefight mission in one of our clients.

André was in Chile for a month and enjoyed the experience.
He says it is different to work directly with the client than remotely with the team at the Competence Center: “By working directly with the client, we see closely the impact our recommendations have and how important our work is. Crossjoin is a leading technological consultancy firm in the performance area that solves missions considered impossible. Our clients value our work and it is very gratifying to feel this from them. It is important, in fact, that all Crossers have a face-to-face experience with the customer” – says our Crosser.

While in Chile he also took the opportunity to enjoy the city and the company of the other Crossers who live there. He had no difficulty in adapting, although it was his first professional experience abroad. He always felt accompanied and only highlighted two difficulties: one was the language, however, it was easily solved when they spoke in “Despacio” mode, and the other was the gastronomy, he confesses that he missed a great Portuguese dish.

He took the opportunity to get to know the Crossers team there on a permanent basis. Every weekend they had dinner together and, he confesses, the sharing of experiences was great! The fact that he had colleagues living there was excellent to get to know the city and know the best places to visit.

André is already in Portugal and sees this experience as very positive:

“At Crossjoin I feel challenged every day and there is always something new to learn. I really liked the way they welcomed me from the first day I joined the team, making my first experience in the professional world easier.”

Crossjoin joined Make-a-Wish Foundation to make a child’s dream come true.

Make a Wish is a Foundation that helps children that are suffering from serious diseases, providing them with a moment of strength, joy and hope: making their wishes come true.
For this, they need monetary support to make the desires a reality.

This December our team gathers to raise money to see the happiness in a child’s face.

On December 15th, Crossers ran and walked for our Christmas’s mission.

At EDP Grande Prémio de Natal Race we did 10 km from Benfica to Restauradores inspired in our cause. And when we felt tired, we remembered why we were there, and we gained the strength to continue.
The challenge was a success. In addition to getting over ourselves, getting physical exercise, we were able to raise more money for our mission of solidarity.
We went home with a feeling of mission accomplished, happy and fulfilled.
